Deborah Younger-Lewis is the Nurse educator for the Prevention & Wellness Centre and Canadian Women’s Heart Health Centre at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. Since 2008, she has worked at the Heart Institute in various departments, including Cardiac Surgery and Cardiac Rehabilitation. Over the years, she has facilitated the development, planning and implementation of educational programs for the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease. As a registered nurse, she provides nursing support to the CardioPrevent and Women@Heart programs. In addition, she is an active health coach for the CardioPrevent and CardioPrevent postpartum programs.
Deborah received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Ottawa, through the Algonquin College collaborative program in Pembroke, Ontario. She received her Bachelor of Kinesiology from Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. She became a Certified Diabetes Educator in 2023 by successfully passing the Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification Board exam. Deborah's areas of interest include women's heart health and promoting healthy lifestyle changes, with a specific passion to support women who have had a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy and/or gestational diabetes.
